Carpet

We developed an Environmental Product Declaration for a carpet manufacturer covering raw materials, installation, in-use maintenance (Module B2, cleaning and periodic restoration), end of life and benefits beyond the system boundary, supporting their procurement disclosures and contributions to BREEAM-credited projects.

  • ISO 14025
  • EN 15804+A2

Scope: Cradle-to-grave · Functional unit: 1 m² of installed carpet over its reference service life

Modules declared

Cradle-to-grave EPD. Module B2 captures the maintenance impacts that occur during use, cleaning, vacuuming and periodic restoration, which are material for a floor covering. The remaining use-stage modules (B1, B3–B7) are not declared, in line with the relevant PCR for this product category.

How the assessment flows

Trace the life cycle to follow each declared stage in turn, or focus any stage to see the modules and components it covers. Greyed stages are not declared in this study.

The challenge

The manufacturer needed a comparable, third-party-verifiable declaration to satisfy procurement teams and contribute to BREEAM-credited fit-outs, and an honest account of the in-use maintenance that buyers of floor coverings often overlook.

Our approach

We built the underlying LCA to the relevant PCR, declaring A1–A5, the B2 maintenance module, end-of-life (C1–C4) and the Module D benefits from recovery, and took the declaration through independent verification.

The outcome

A published, comparable EPD that the client can submit to tenders and that supports their customers' whole-building assessments, with the maintenance burden quantified rather than hidden.
